DESCRIPTION: This assignment also goes with the previous assignment pertaining to the resources for saving the bees with twice-exceptional students experiencing reading difficulties in mind on top of the ELA Instructional Shifts and the Technology Integration Matrix.  The unit also supports English Language Learners as it promotes the acceptance of using native languages, translators, and opportunities for connections.  Moreover, the whole unit revolves arounds gifted students blogging and reflecting on their own learning by having the freedom to present themselves through words, pictures, video blogs, etc.  I designed the unit to also have social and emotional connections and opportunities for gifted students to help critique/evaluate others’ responses with friendly tones and work together like bees in hives.  Towards the end of the unit, the gifted students should not only reflect on their growth learning about bees and themselves as learners and being more aware of bias for media literacy, but also collaborate as a class along with other students/classrooms across the globe to save the bees!  The opportunity and experience to collaborate with other students/classrooms can also promote learning about other cultures, overcoming language barriers, stereotypes, tolerance, and acceptance.  The possibilities are endless when it comes to global collaboration and multicultural education.
