Discuss what sources are available to answer the question, "What is the Code of Hammurabi?" The Codex Hammurabi is sometimes called a law code without much thought, but were these "laws" consulted to make judicial decisions? How can historians use the available evidence to shed light on this historical enigma? What are the limitations or biases of the sources? Chapter 6 in your textbook and Isin-Larsa and Old Babylonian Periods should be particularly helpful in framing your response. Note: you should also consider the physical form as well as the social context of the Codex Hammurabi.
