Module 2 Activities

(Chapter 2 - Suffixes & Chapter 3 - Prefixes)

 

Important Note

We will use the suffixes and prefixes you learn in these chapters throughout the entire course to build words. It is important that you take the time to learn these terms, and their rules, as you will continue to use them for the body systems as well.  Additional suffixes and prefixes that are pertinent to each of the body systems will be added during those chapters, but these are the basic suffixes and suffixes that are widely applicable.

 

 

Objectives

Chapter 2

1. Identify examples of surgical, diagnostic, pathological, and related suffixes.
2. Link combining forms and word roots to suffixes.
3. Define and provide surgical, diagnostic, pathological, and related suffixes.
4. Define and provide adjective, noun, and diminutive suffixes.
5. Locate and apply guidelines for pluralizing terms.

Chapter 3

1. Define common prefixes used in medical terminology.
2. Describe how a prefix changes the meaning of a medical word.
3. Recognize and define prefixes of position, number and measurement, and direction.
