This page contains import course information. Please read all content on this page.
Textbook Information
The textbook we will be utilizing for this course is "Medical Technology Systems: A Body Systems Approach (8th Edition, textbook only) - Barbara Gylys and Mary Ellen Wedding". We have acquired access to an e-book of the textbook through the UCF Library for Free! Directions on how to access the e-book are located in Module 0. If you have any issues accessing the e-book through the UCF Library, you must contact the Library support team, as they can best direct you, a link is provided in Module 0 to the support team. Unfortunately since the textbook is housed through the Library system we as instructors do not have any technical access to it, so you must go through the Library support team for assistance.
You do NOT need to purchase anything for this course if you use the e-book through the library. However, we are aware that students learn best through different methods. Therefore, if you prefer a physical copy of the textbook you can absolutely purchase that. You can purchase it through the UCF bookstore or any other 3rd party provider, just make sure it is the correct edition as listed on the syllabus.
We will also be utilizing materials from an Open Educational Resource (Building a Medical Terminology Foundation by Kimberlee Carter and Marie Rutherford) however you do not need to access this separately as it has been integrated into our supplementary information and assignments here in Canvas under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This is just to make you aware that we have used this resource and provide attribution.
Course Structure
The course is structured so that you will complete the required chapter(s) for the week by reading your text, completing several activities per week and culminating in 4 tests throughout the course. Medical Terminology is helped by repetition. The required activities will allow you to work through the material each week in multiple ways to help solidify your knowledge. There are also additional activities that can be completed throughout the course that are optional but are available in case you feel more review would be beneficiary.
Due Dates
There are due dates attached to the graded activities and tests. All of these dates can be found on your syllabus. It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of dates and deadlines. There will be NO makeups or late submissions.
Viewing Correct Answers
The correct answers for assignments will be available a week after the due date per the dates listed on the syllabus (with the exception of the final batch that are available immediately the due date). Please be aware that the Assemble-A-Word assignments will show you YOUR responses immediately after you complete the assignment, but the correct responses will not be available until the dates listed on the syllabus.

If you’re having trouble accessing your e-book, please contact the UCF Library.
