Discussion Post Overview

The purpose of this discussion is to encourage you to reflect on the principles of learning discussed in Module 6 (Week 6), to think of ways that you could apply these principles in your assigned UTA course, and to learn about ideas posted by your classmates. Reading your classmates' posts may give you additional ideas for how you could apply the principles. 

Directions 

1. Review the principles of learning covered in Module 6 (Week 6).
2. Select one principle of learning and outline a specific example of an approach you plan to take or would recommend that is aligned with that principle.
3. List the course name and number and the principle followed by your example in the discussion as shown in the following example.
   • HSC 4558: Pathophysiology II
   • Principle: Same Stuff, New Ways: When discussing the changes that occur in the small intestine when a person with celiac disease ingests gluten-containing foods, I would recommend that the student:
     • complete the assigned reading
     • attend class and listen to the professor explain what is occurring during a lecture
     • watch a video showing the sequence of events leading to intestinal damage that was posted by the professor on Webcourses
     • complete a worksheet I developed that requires them to fill in the missing steps
     • develop a flow diagram of the sequence of events
     • rehearse the steps out loud and/or repeat them to a classmate, using their diagram to double check that their statements were correct
4. Read your classmates' posts. 
5. Identify one post (other than your own) that you think provides a good example of a relevant instructional strategy for the principle listed. Explain why you selected this example. If you are not the first person to select a particular post, be sure to give your own reason. Your reply should not simply state that you agree or that you like the reason that was already given.

Grading

This assignment is worth 10 points:

• 6 points for posting the required information using the format shown above (by the deadline).
• 4 points for posting a thoughtful reply (by the deadline) that explains why you selected the post.
