Discussion Post #1: Overview

The purpose of this discussion is to encourage you to reflect on the qualities/characteristics associated with the effectiveness of UTAs, to consider the qualities/characteristics that you think are most essential to your assigned UTA role(s), and to demonstrate how you can/will apply these as you carry out your UTA responsibilities. Read your classmates' posts to gain perspective on their views and approaches to being effective in their role as UTAs. Their posts may provide you with ideas of things you could do that you hadn't thought about.

Directions 

1. Reflect on the qualities/characteristics we discussed associated with the effectiveness of UTAs. Select two qualities/characteristics that you think are essential to your effectiveness as a UTA in your assigned course, why you selected these, and what you have done/plan to do to demonstrate these qualities. Share this information in an online post. (Note: Refer to the photo you took in class if you need to jog your memory of the list of qualities/characteristics we discussed in class.)
2. Read your classmates' posts to gain perspective on their views and approaches to being effective in their role as UTAs.
3. Send a reply to at least one classmate describing what you found interesting about the post and why it was interesting to you.

Grading

Students will receive full points (15 points) if they include:

1. two qualities/characteristics essential to their role (4 points).
2. a rationale for selecting these qualities/characteristics (4 points).
3. a description/plan for what they have/will do to demonstrate these qualities (4 points).
4. post a reply to at least one classmate describing what was interesting about the post and why (3 points).
