Assignment Introduction
This assignment has two parts. Part 1 is intended to ensure that you know what is expected of you in your role as an undergraduate teaching assistant and to help you organize and plan how you will meet these expectations.
Part 2 of this assignment will help you demonstrate how you achieved these expectations and evaluate the impact of performing these responsibilities on your professional growth/development. Part 2 is due later in the semester, but it is a good idea to work on it as you progress through the semester.
Objectives (Part 1)
- Outline the responsibilities you are expected to perform in your role as an undergraduate teaching assistant.
- Develop a plan for meeting the responsibilities you are expected to perform as an undergraduate teaching assistant.
- Practice professional oral communication skills.
Instructions for Part 1
- Schedule a time to meet with your faculty supervisor prior to the start of the semester to discuss their expectations of your performance as a UTA in their course.
- Use the Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Expectations Checklist Download Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Expectations Checklist as a guide for asking questions when you meet with your faculty supervisor.
- Use the Expectations, Plan, Evidence, and Impact Download Expectations, Plan, Evidence, and Impact template to list each of the expectations identified during your meeting with your faculty supervisor (column 1). Expectations may include professional behaviors (i.e., promptness, time management, etc.) as well as specific activities.
- Outline your plans for meeting these expectations in the designated column of the table.
- An example is provided for your reference. If you have questions about this assignment, please contact your instructor for HSC4813.
- Submit Part 1 of this assignment (i.e., all expectations and plans) in Webcourses as a Word document by the due date, and email a copy to your faculty supervisor.
