Clarity: The language is clear and expressive. The reader can create a mental picture of the situation being described. Relevance: The learning experience being reflected upon is relevant and meaningful to student and the topic of the reflection. Analysis: The reflection moves beyond simple description of the experience to an analysis of how the experience contributed to student understanding of themselves, others, and/or course concepts.  Critical Self-Reflection: The reflection demonstrates the student’s ability to question his/her own biases, stereotypes, preconceptions, and/or assumptions.

Significant Marks
Clarity: The language is mostly clear with only minor, infrequent lapses in clarity. Relevance: The learning experience being reflected upon is relevant and meaningful to student and course learning goals.  Analysis: The reflection demonstrates student attempts to analyze the experience but analysis lacks depth.  Critical Self-Reflection: The reflection includes some text where the student began to question his/her own biases, stereotypes, preconceptions.

Clarity: There are frequent lapses in clarity that make the ideas conveyed hard to follow at times. Relevance: Student makes attempts to demonstrate relevance, but the relevance is unclear to the reader.  Analysis: Student makes attempts at applying the learning experience to understanding of self, others, and/or course concepts but does not yet to demonstrate depth of analysis.  Critical Self-Reflection: There is some attempt at critical self-reflection, but the self-reflection does not yet demonstrate a new awareness of personal biases, etc.

Clarity: Language is unclear and confusing throughout. Relevance: Most of the reflection is irrelevant to student (does not convey personal experiences) and/or course learning goals.  Analysis: Reflection does not move beyond description of the learning experience(s) or ideas presented.   Critical Self-Reflection: Not attempt of critical self-reflection is evident to the reader.
