Support:

ZOOM:

Zoom is used in this course for some synchronous class meetings. Meeting dates and time will be posted is course announcements. Please take time to familiarize yourself with Zoom by visiting the UCF ZOOM Guide.

  • You must sign into ZOOM sessions using your UCF NID and password
  • ZOOM class sessions are recorded. Please keep your camera turned off during class sessions
  • ZOOM office hours are not recorded.
  • Improper class room behavior will not be tolerated within ZOOM sessions and may result in a referral to the Office of Student conduct.
  • You can contact UCF webcourses support for any technical issues accessing ZOOM.

Review the following troubleshooting tips for Zoom meetings. Remember, you can always contact Webcourses@UCF SupportLinks to an external site. (Links to an external site.) for assistance.

  • You must sign in to my Zoom session using your UCF NID and password.
  • The Zoom lectures are recorded.
  • You can contact Webcourses@UCF Supportat <https://cdl.ucf.edu/support/webcourses/> if you have any technical issues accessing Zoom.
  • Dial-in to a Zoom meeting. If your microphone is not working, use the phone number listed in the Zoom invitation when you set up a Zoom call. You can use your phone as the microphone and audio source for your call rather than your computer’s built-in microphone if necessary.
  • Turn off your web camera during lecture. If your Internet connection is slow or lagging, consider temporarily turning off your video stream and only maintaining the audio stream. Sometimes, running the web camera on your computer will use up the Internet’s bandwidth in a way that might make communication challenging. Turning off the video should improve communication quality and consistency.
  • Wear earbuds or headphones. If you have earbuds or a headphone set, wear them! Wearing earbuds or headphones will reduce the amount of noise that your computer will pick up and improve the session quality.
  • Mute microphones when not speaking.
  • Keep an eye on chat.
  • Improper classroom behavior is not tolerated within Zoom sessions and may result in a referral to the Office of Student Conduct. Treat your zoom lecture as you would an actual face to face lecture.

Internet outage problems

The use of the internet is essential for the proper operation of this class. In order to avoid difficulties with internet outages, interruptions, or technical difficulties effecting the completion of the assignments of this class, the student must have a back-up plan to put into effect on encountering any of these difficulties. This is the responsibility of the student, to have such a back-up plan and to put it into effect if problems arise. This might include using phone data plans or other mechanisms to resolve the problems.

It is recommended that students consider making sure they can use their phone’s data plan to provide internet access in case of any network disruption. They should also make sure that their computer and phone are charged before any assessment. Access to a power brick to provide emergency power may also be an option.

Since these issues can be prevented with proper planning by the student there will be no makeups or extensions due to interruptions or loss of power or internet access.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the differences between expressions, equations, inequalities, functions and relations;
  • Factor algebraic expressions;
  • Simplify arithmetic and algebraic expressions including those containing polynomials, rational expressions, integer exponents, rational exponents, radicals, or complex numbers;
  • Solve equations in one variable, including linear, quadratic, quadratic in form, and those containing rational expressions, radicals, or absolute value;
  • Graph of basic functions including linear, quadratic, square root, and rational;
  • Graph and solve systems of two linear equations;
  • Find the equations and properties of lines and parabolas given certain conditions;
  • Accurately communicate mathematical terminology and notation, both verbally and in writing.

Course Activities

  • The Required Academic activity is located in webcourses and is not a droppable grade.
  • Every class will be followed with a Class Activity quiz this quiz is located in ALEKS and ALEKS will automatically submit the quiz/activity grades to webcourses after the due date has passed.
  • The Class Activity quiz will be password protected. The password will be disseminated during the zoom lecture.
  • Tests and the weekly Class quiz that require Respondus and Respondus monitor. Respondus monitor requires your computer have a webcam.
  • There is no Extra Credit in this course.
  • There are weekly objectives for this course and these objectives are in ALEKS. Merely working the week's quiz and class activity will not answer all the topics in the objective be prepared to work additional time as needed to fulfill the objective requirements.
  • There are 3 tests and a final in this course. Students must take the final.

Activity Submissions

The Required academic activity is located in webcourses and no submission is required. All other assignments, quizzes and tests are located in ALEKS . ALEKS will automatically submit grades from all assignments after the due date is passed. The students is not required to submit anything.

Attendance/Participation

  • Students who request absences for religious holiday must read, understand and follow the requirements of UCF's religious holiday policy.
  • Students who request absences for school related events must submit a signed Program Verification Form before their absence.
  • Severe weather conditions will be determined by UCF
  • Make-up for any activity that has an excused absence must be done within 7 days of the due date of the event.
  • Attendance while not required for class meeting is highly encouraged as class attendance and class performance are highly correlated.
  • Passwords for the class quizzes will given during zoom class and can be obtained either by being in class or watching the video. Dissemination of the password to students who did not attend the lecture is consider cheating and both students will be treated accordingly.

The Undergraduate Catalog states, “Reasons for acceptable absences may include illness, serious family emergencies, special curricular requirements (e.g., judging trips, field trips, professional conferences), military obligations, severe weather conditions, and religious holidays.” Please note that the definition of an emergency is "a serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action." Making the statement that you are going to have an emergency next week is not a valid statement.

Make-up Exams and Assignments

Per university policy, you are allowed to submit make-up work (or an equivalent, alternate assignment) for authorized university-sponsored activities, religious observances, or legal obligations (such as jury duty please provide copy of jury summons) or military obligations (for military obligations please provide a copy of your military orders). If this participation conflicts with your course assignments, I will offer a reasonable opportunity for you to complete missed assignments and/or exams. The make-up assignment and grading scale will be equivalent to the missed assignment and its grading scale. In the case of an authorized university activity, it is your responsibility to show me a signed copy of the Program Verification Form for which you will be absent, prior to the class in which the absence occurs. In any of these cases, please contact me ahead of time to notify me of upcoming needs. Make-ups for excused assignments should be preformed within 7 days.

This course has built in drops instead of make-up's for non-authorized absence.
