Online Learning
This course is taught as a fully online class. Online learning is not for everyone; some people may not be able to manage a course that does not meet face to face to learn. Online learning requires lots of planning and self-pacing so that you may be successful in my course. Since much material will be covered in 16 weeks, I would highly recommend treating this course like a regular lecture course, and keeping up with readings and assignments. Please do not be tempted to skip a a module (i.e., week of readings, activities, and assignments) and expect to catch up easily.

Do not wait until the last minute to complete your work. Complete it early so that technical problems do not interfere with your ability submit your work on time. Note that technical difficulties are not a valid excuse for not turning in assignments or for not submitting quizzes on time. Assignments or quizzes will not be accepted after 11:59 pm on the due date. No exceptions. In addition, there will not be make-up assignments, or quizzes. No exception.
Evaluation and Grading
Syllabus Quiz
The syllabus quiz is worth 10 points. It will include information contained in the syllabus and Course Expectations. The syllabus quiz has no time limit and you will have unlimited attempts to complete it.
Please note that as of fall 2014, all faculty members are required to document students' academic activity at the beginning of each course. In order to document that you began this course, please complete the Syllabus Quiz by the end of the first week of classes (Friday May 20), or as soon as possible after adding the course. Failure to do so will result in a delay in the disbursement of your financial aid.
Weekly Quizzes
You will complete weekly multiple choice quizzes (i.e., there will be a total of 6 quizzes). Each quiz will be worth 100 points. The quizzes will be based on the assigned textbook chapters. You will have a restricted amount of time (30 minutes) and only one attempt to complete them; and you won’t be able to stop, pause, or save them to complete them later. Quizzes will be closed book and closed notes. Prepare for the quiz, and open it only when you know you are ready (when you have studied the corresponding chapters) to complete it. Quizzes will open at 11:00 am the Thursday before their due date and close at 11:59 pm on their Thursday due date.
Group Assignments
You will be assigned to a group of 4 or 5 students. You will work together completing group assignments. There will be 3 group assignments. Each group assignment will be worth 50 points.
In the group assignments, you will be critically analyzing cases. Each of the members of the group is expected to provide his/her input, and then, the individual inputs are to be brought together to create a single final product (i.e. each group must turn in a single paper). All the students who contributed to the assignment will receive the same grade on that final product. Note that each of the members of the group is expected to contribute to the entire assignment not to sections or parts of the assignment. Note also, that it is expected that your group include relevant information from the assigned readings (and or videos) into the responses.
It is your responsibility to submit your individual input to the other members of your group by the Monday before the Thursday due date, and by that day, as a group, you should have decided when you will be working collaboratively ( in the online environment of Collaborations, as explained below) to create the final product. Note that the final product must not be the sum of the individual input of each of the members. As a group, you should integrate the information and ideas that fully address the issues of interest, making sure that information is not repeated, that relevant information is included, and that irrelevant information is eliminated. You must also make sure that the paper is well organized, that the ideas flow smoothly and logically, and that the paper is free of grammar errors. Finally, as a group you need to make sure that the entire paper is written in your own words.
Importantly, group assignments (or parts of the group assignment) completed by individual students will not be accepted. Members of a group who do not contribute to a group assignment, or fail to submit their input to the other members of the group by the Monday before the Thursday due date, or who after submitting their input to the other members of the group do not work with them collaboratively to create the final group product, should not be included in the list of members who contributed to the assignment (do not include his/her name(s) on the paper). They will receive a grade of zero. Since part of your final grade will depend on the group assignment, teamwork skills are essential for this class.
In order to find your group, click on thee Groups link on the menu on the left. You will see the groups you are currently enrolled. The name of your group is "Group Assignment" followed by a number. The number is just the number that identifies your group. Your group has its own homepage with discussion, collaborations, files (tabs on the menu on the left of the homepage) etc. By clicking on the People tab on the menu on the left of your group's homepage, you will be able to see the names of the members of your group.
In order to complete the group assignments, use Collaborations( Collaborations tab on the menu on the left of your group's homepage). To start a collaboration, go to Collaborations (in your group's homepage). Click on Start a New Collaboration. select Google Docs from the drop down menu in Collaborate Using. Give the assignment a title. In the description part, you can put the title of the reading you will be basing your discussion on. Then, include the members of your group from the list on the left. Finally, click on Start Collaboration. The collaboration you created will show as a link. In order to participate, click on that link. In Google docs you and the members of your group can work on the same document at the same time. Once your group has completed the paper, you can upload the Google document to the submission page. Alternatively, you can save the file as docx document and upload that file to the submission page. You must submit only one paper per group. Remember to put the names of members of the group who contributed to the assignment on the paper. Please note that in order to use Collaborations all the members of your group will need a Google's account.
Group assignments will open at 11:00 am the Thursday before their Thursday due date and will close at 11:59 pm on their Thursday due date. They must be submitted by the due date.
Introduction Discussion
You will introduce yourself to the rest of the class. The introduction discussion is worth 10 points. You must complete the introduction discussion by Thursday May 19 at 11:59 pm.
Individual Assignments
You will be required to complete 3 individual assignments. Two of the individual assignments will be worth 90 points (Assignment 1 and 3) and one will be worth 50 points (Assignment 2). Instructions for each of the assignments will be provided in Webcourses.
Individual assignments will open the Thursday before their Thursday due date at 11:00 am and will close at 11:59 pm on their Thursday due date. They must be submitted by the due date.

Grade Complaints
If you have a complaint, question, or concern about your grade for a particular assignment (group or individual assignment) discussion posting, or quiz, you need to contact your TA via Inbox in Webcourses (and copy me) within one week of the day that the grades for that particular assignment, discussion posting or quiz are posted on Webcourses. After that deadline (one week after the grades are posted on Webcourses) the grades will be considered definitive and no grade complaints or concerns will be considered. No exceptions.
No Extra-Credit
Extra-credit is not offered in this class
Plagiarism
Many incidents of plagiarism result from students’ lack of understanding about what constitutes plagiarism. However, you are expected to familiarize yourself with UCF’s policy on plagiarism. All work you submit must be your own scholarly and creative efforts. UCF’s Golden Rule defines plagiarism as follows: “whereby another’s work is used or appropriated without any indication of the source, thereby attempting to convey the impression that such work is the student’s own.”
Your Individual Assignments, group assignment, and discussion postings must be written entirely in your own words. Note that whenever you paraphrase information from a particular source, you must give credit to that source using both in-text citations and listing the sources you used in your references (Follow APA style).
In this course we use turnitin.com to detect plagiarism. Turnitin.com is an automated system which instructors can use to quickly and easily compare each student's assignment with billions of web sites, as well as an enormous database of student papers that grows with each submission. Accordingly, you may be expected to submit assignments in electronic format. After the assignment is processed, as an instructor I receive a report from turnitin.com that states if and how another author's work was used in the assignment. For a more detailed look at this process, visithttp://www.turnitin.com (Links to an external site.).
Academic Integrity
Plagiarism and Cheating of any kind on an examination, quiz, or assignment will result at least in an "F" for that assignment (and may, depending on the severity of the case, lead to an "F" for the entire course) and may be subject to appropriate referral to the Office of Student Conduct for further action. See the UCF Golden Rule for further information. I will assume for this course that you will adhere to the academic creed of this University and will maintain the highest standards of academic integrity. In other words, don't cheat by giving answers to others or taking them from anyone else. I will also adhere to the highest standards of academic integrity, so please do not ask me to change (or expect me to change) your grade illegitimately or to bend or break rules for one person that will not apply to everyone.
Copyright
This course may contain copyright protected materials such as audio or video clips, images, text materials, etc. These items are being used with regard to the Fair Use doctrine in order to enhance the learning environment. Please do not copy, duplicate, download or distribute these items. The use of these materials is strictly reserved for this online classroom environment and your use only. Third-Party Software and FERPA
During this course you might have the opportunity to use public online services and/or software applications sometimes called third-party software such as a blog or wiki. While some of these could be required assignments, you need not make any personally identifying information on a public site. Do not post or provide any private information about yourself or your classmates. Where appropriate you may use a pseudonym or nickname. Some written assignments posted publicly may require personal reflection/comments, but the assignments will not require you to disclose any personally identity-sensitive information. If you have any concerns about this, please contact your instructor.
