Web-mediated ENC 1102 immerses students in the work of:

  • Using concepts from writing and rhetoric to identify and analyze complex, real-world rhetorical situations that animate academic, professional, civic, and personal life.
  • Considering the technologies and research methods (both primary and secondary) that mediate writing, research, and the construction of knowledge.
  • Conducting appropriate primary and secondary research to understand the rhetorical situations that are the focus of inquiry and to situate that inquiry in scholarly conversations.
  • Evaluating, analyzing, and responding to arguments that constitute complex real-world exigencies.
  • Engaging with writing as a process that develops over time through peer and teacher feedback and multiple revisions.
  • Employing revising and editing practices to produce texts that intervene effectively in a variety of rhetorical situations.
  • Applying web skills to complete various tasks and assembling an online portfolio that showcases both writing processes and products from a variety of genres and that demonstrates writing development throughout the semester.

During this course, I think overall I have become a better writer and have developed really good argumentative skills that will come in handy later on down the road. After each paper, I have become more and more involved in using all of these concepts to make my writing make more sense and get better at conveying my point. In all of my papers, I have used mainly secondary research methods to find my sources and give explanations of all of my points, but I have learned how to do primary based research from paying attention in class and listening to lectures. In my time in this class, I have learned how to use primary and secondary research, and have been investing my time to get better and better each paper I write. I also really liked the method of putting up your paper for a peer review and having to look at others papers because it would give yourself feedback of your own paper and give you the chance to look at others papers to see if there's anything you can improve on. Lastly, I really liked the idea of the online portfolio and how you could upload your files and they could all be in one place. It made you finish your papers and upload them to the portfolio and give you a sense that you completed what you had to do.
