Introduction to Module 4
Module 4 is about the experimental research strategy and experimental designs, and covers three chapters in your textbook.
The first, chapter 7, is about experimental research generally.
Chapters 8 and 9 are each dedicated to a specific experimental research design, with chapter 8 covering between subject designs and chapter 9 covering within-subject designs.

A lab on elements of an experiment and dealing with extraneous variables
Module 4 Learning Objectives:
At the end of module 4 you should be able to:
- Identify the major goal of the experimental strategy and the elements of an experiment
- Evaluate designs with regard to the presence of extraneous variables
- Modify designs to improve internal and external validity
- Identify the basic elements of and pros and cons of between subject designs
- Identify the basic elements of and pros and cons of within subject designs
- Transform a within subject design into a between subject design (or vice versa)
