Introduction to Module 3
Introduction to Module 3
Module 3 includes a chapter on sampling techniques and a chapter on research strategies and validity. Understanding these topics is essential to designing a good research study. Chapter 6 in particular is quite dense, so be sure to allow enough time to read and prepare for the quiz and other assignments. The online content pages are meant to supplement and reinforce rather than replace thorough reading of the book chapters.
Assignments:
There are three assignments in module 3
- Discussion: identifying sampling techniques and threats to validity and evaluating options for improving a study.
- Lab: specifying your sample and sampling technique
- Quiz on chapters 5 & 6
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this module you will be able to:
Distinguish quantitative from qualitative research
Select a sample from a target population
Evaluate different sampling strategies and identify their pros and cons
Name and describe strategies for quantitative research
Describe internal and external validity
Identify threats to internal and external validity
Apply research strategies to minimize threats to internal and external validity
