Introduction to Module 2

In this module we will study two topics

1. Ethics in research (chapter 4 in your textbook) and

2. Understanding variables and measurement (chapter 3 in your textbook)

And yes, they are listed out of order intentionally...read chapter 4 first, and then chapter 3.

There will be three assignments:

  1. Discussion: ethics and research
  2. Lab: understanding measurement in research
  3. A quiz on chapters 3 & 4

Learning Objectives

At the end of this module you should be able to:

  • identify qualities of ethical research
  • describe some of the history that preceded today's ethical safeguards
  • discuss the requirements for research involving human and animal participants
  • operationalize constructs
  • classify measures by their modes and types
  • evaluate the reliability and validity of measures
