Introduction to Module 1

Module 1 is probably quite similar content in research methods classes at any university in the USA. Almsot any research methods in psychology course begins with an overview of research methods and how to generate ideas for research  and then turn an idea into a hypothesis to be tested.

You should begin by reading chapters 1 & 2 in your textbook

Assignments:

There are three assignments in module 1

  1. Discussion: getting to know you and your interests and questions
  2. Lab: researching and developing interests using search engines
  3. Quiz on chapters 1 & 2

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this module you will be able to:

Understand how scientists define 'knowing' and identify and critique common methods of knowing

Describe the steps in the research process

use search engines including psyarticles and google scholar to conduct a literature search

read and understand a research article

generate and develop your own research interests (which may allow yout o get a head start on your final paper)
