Accessing Your Development Course
Now you are going to access your development course and learn about items such as selecting your course home page and navigating through your course. Follow the directions below to access your development course.
- Scroll over the
drop-down menu located within the Global Navigation Links at the top of this page.
- Right click on your development course title and select "Open Link in New Window" in order to view both your development course and IDL6543 at the same time. You may need to rearrange the courses on your computer screen so that you can follow the steps below while viewing your development course.
- Please contact your instructional designer if you do not see your development course in the drop-down menu.
- If you have any trouble accessing your development course, contact Webcourses@UCF support at 407-823-0407.
Course Home Page
The first thing you will see in your development course is the Assignments with Syllabus page, since this is the default Home Page. Webcourses@UCF gives you, the instructor, the flexibility to change the Home Page Links to an external site. layout for your course and decide what you would like students to see when they log into the course. For example, you may set the Home Page to the Assignments with Syllabus page, Modules list, or a page that you will design yourself. During your first consultation, you will talk with your instructional designer about the options to choose from for your course Home Page and the option to include a course banner.
Navigating Your Development Course
As you learned in the Instructure Canvas Student Tour earlier in this module, Webcourses have Global Navigation links and Course Navigation links. Below are a few additional resources to help you learn how to navigate in Webcourses@UCF and understand the difference between the global and course specific tools.

Canvas Help Guide
As you build your development course throughout IDL6543, you may have questions about course tools and how to use them. The Canvas Help Guide provides helpful text directions and videos on all the available tools and how to use them.
To access this guide:
- Click Help in the Help Corner located in the top right of your screen.
- Click Search the Canvas Guides in the new Help window that opens (shown below) to search for more information on any tool available in Webcourses@UCF.
Customizing Your Development Course
One of the goals of IDL6543 is to help you build an online course that meets your specific pedagogical needs. You will customize your development course as you work with your instructional designer throughout IDL6543.
