Monitoring Student Progress & Performance
Beyond the Gradebook, there are additional tools in Canvas to help assess student progress, performance, and overall level of engagement.
Canvas Analytics Tool
Currently, New Analytics Links to an external site. allows instructors to track average course grades for student submissions using an interactive chart, graph, or table. Page views and participation metrics for students include an aggregate across all devices, including Canvas mobile apps.
New Analytics Resources:
Course Statistics Tool
Course Statistics Links to an external site. gives you a glimpse into which assignments, discussions, and quizzes are engaging students and what might be improved in the future. It will also help you to detect which students are not participating to the fullest or have started to fall behind the rest of the class.
Perhaps most importantly, Course Statistics shows the last date/time and a record of when a particular student logged into the course. During the first week of class, it is strongly recommended that you check the course statistics area to ensure that students are logging into your course.
Access and Interaction Reports for Individual Students
In addition to Course Statistics, access and interaction reports are available for individual students.
- The Access Report Links to an external site. display the total number of times a student has gone to an area of the course.
- The Interaction Report Links to an external site. records all of the interactions between an individual student and an instructor throughout the duration of the course.
Quiz Statistics
Quiz Statistics Links to an external site. are available for any Quizzes in your course that have at least one student submission. You can view both a Student Analysis and an Item Analysis for each Quiz.
