Creating a Module Outline
What is a Module Outline?
When creating your course map, you identified the instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments you plan to include in each week/unit/module in your course. A module outline is an outline or list that identifies how you will translate and apply your design plans to your Canvas course. Creating a module outline before starting to set up a module in your course helps you focus on the design and sequence that students will experience rather than focus first on the technology and features in Canvas.
For example:
- How will you group and sequence content/topics, activities, and assessments in the module?
- What is the order or sequence in which you would like students to complete readings, activities, and assessments in this module?
- How will you guide students through the content, activities, and assessments in this module?
- How will you organize and chunk the content and activities?
- Consider using text headers and consistent naming conventions.
- What format will the materials be presented in (e.g., Canvas Page, video, audio)?
- Depending on the amount of content you will use to deliver to students for each topic, how many pages will you need to organize and chunk the content for students?
