Population Health - Module Overview

Population health: big data, big solutions - University of Mississippi Medical Center

Module Introduction

Nurses who work in hospital settings may not have a full understanding of population health.  However, those who work at Veteran's Health Administration, know that population health defines the care they provide to veterans (a defined group).  Additionally, the VA may use similar quality management steps, measurement, assessment and improvement as those implemented in acute care settings.

The 2020 COVID - 19 pandemic is a timely example of how non-VA hospitals are committed to population health care.  While direct care is focused on each individual patients, hospitals are aware of the importance of their data to public health contact tracing, testing, and to implement public health strategies to guarantee safety for the patients, families and staff through social distancing and face masks, psychological support etc.

Chapter 11  provides information that is important to all nurses in all settings.
