Personal PI Project: 1st week
Personal QI Project
Objective: Students will use the Model of Improvement to systematically analyze a problem and then develop, implement and evaluate a plan to improve the problem.
At the end of the 4 weeks, you will submit a poster to illustrate your improvement process. You will share your poster with your small group. Be sure to consult How to Create a Poster in the Course Introduction Module for information on how to design a poster using a PowerPoint.
Step 1. Identify and analyze a problem
Students will apply the IHI’s Model for Improvement to achieve a personal goal. Begin by reviewing Healthy People 2030 guidelines. Conduct a mini-gap analysis to identify a personal opportunity to improve a lifestyle behavior. Examples include, low levels of physical activity, insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables, insufficient intake of water, poor quality and quantity of sleep, etc.
Select an “opportunity” to improve. Use the QI Essentials Toolkit to analyze the problem, set a goal, make a plan to improve the health behavior, then collect data to monitor your progress to meet your health goal. This project will take place over a 6-week period of time.
To get started, you will need to identify your problem and then analyze the problem using a Cause and Effect diagram and a Key Driver diagram (Read your textbook on how to create a Fishbone or Key Driver Diagram). You will use your diagrams in your poster. Here are 2 short videos to help you get started:
