Healthcare Quality Foundations - Module Overview
Module Introduction
Spath (2018) Chapters 1 and 2 present overarching principles of quality and introduces many of us to the Institute for HealthCare Improvement (IHI), an international organization that focuses on improving health care. IHI developed the Triple Aim Framework - three dimensions that drive health care improvements: Better Care; Health People/Health Communities, and; Affordable Care. These were adopted as part of the National Quality Strategy (NQS) in 2011. Six priorities in the NQS reflected these aims.
The step to assure quality you may be most familiar with occurs within your organization's quality management program. The three quality management activities - measurement, assessment and improvement - underlie your organizations strategies to improve health care delivery and reduce costs. The Baldridge National Quality Award is a prestigious award to honor performance excellence. You will be introduced to the core values and concepts of this award's excellent framework. Additionally, Healthcare Accreditation Groups are listed. These are helpful tools/frameworks to guide your management and leadership roles.
