Welcome to Module Eleven: Point of View, Emotion and Illusion in Stories we Tell!
You will read three short theoretical articles to contextualize a screening of Sarah Polley’s Stories we Tell. Then, you will analyze perspective, emotion and point of view in cinema through a short discussion post related to the form of the film. Since it is an essay film, it will provide another example to contextualize the final project. You will use this knowledge to begin your work-in-progress draft. You will conclude this week’s module by complete your final reading quiz.
Module 11: Topics and Goals
In this module you can expect to:
- Explore the theoretical concepts of alignment and point of view by reading 3 articles from the Routledge Encyclopedia on Film Theory: "Emotion, Film and" (p. 151-156) + "Illusion" (p.247-252) + "Point of View" (pg. 371-375)
- Observe these concepts through a screening of Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell apply them in your analysis on the film in a discussion.
- Demonstrate comprehension of modules 10 and 11 content by taking your last reading quiz for the semester, Quiz 4
