Module 7: Summary

This concludes the Week 7 Module: The Ontology of the Photographic Image. You read about historical approaches to the depiction of time on-screen through a Filmish reading. You used the knowledge gained from this chapter on time to contextualize Andre Bazin's "Ontology of the Photographic Image." You progressed through content in the module to understand the central argument of this theory. Finally, you used the knowledge gained from the material in the module to evaluate the realist aesthetics in your chosen film through a short discussion post. This led us to a questioning of realism in cinema since there is still a guiding subjective perspective of a filmmaker involved. We will return to this concept in the week following the mid-term exam.

ScheduleGetting Ready for Module 8

In the next module, you will solely work on your Midterm essay exam.
