Welcome to Module Seven: The Ontology of the Photographic Image!
This term refers to the theoretical article written by Andre Bazin, which you will read this week, that investigates the unique qualities of the photographic image. You will begin the module by reviewing concepts of time in cinema with a reading from Filmish. Then, you will use the foundational knowledge gained from Filmish to evaluate and analyze Bazin's "Ontology of the Photographic Image." Through lecture content and screenings, students will understand and evaluate how Bazin’s techniques emerge in cinematic expression.
