Before viewing Brazil make sure that you read chapters 2 and 3 of Filmish. You should have purchased this book by now. Unfortunately, I cannot provide a PDF of these chapters. You can buy a copy here:
Kindle Edition Available also.
Chapter 2: The Body
This chapter considers how bodies how been portrayed throughout cinema. You can think of Buster Keaton's stunts in Sherlock Jr. and his other work falling into the idea of this chapter. This section of Filmish also touches upon the representation of race, sexuality, gender and disability on-screen.
Chapter 3: Sets and Architecture
This chapter considers how cinematic space is portrayed on screen throughout cinematic history. You'll read about how set designs reflect a film's message. Remember that even minimal aspects of the mise-en-scene accomplished through production design can have a significant impact on the representation of a film's world.
Consider the concepts and terms from these chapters when viewing this week's film, Brazil. You will use these materials to write your next piece of film criticism for this week's assignment.
