Module 2 Summary

In the week two module: film analysis terms, you browsed the Yale Film Analysis Guide to learn formative analytical film terms such as mis-en-scene, diegesis and off-screen space. You applied an understanding of this terms through a screening of Her (2013) and the completion of a short discussion assignment.  You used the knowledge gained through the completion of this module to compose a short scene analysis of your own.

In the next module, you'll be reading your first theoretical essay out of the Routledge Encyclopedia of Film Theory. It focuses on the philosophical concept known as Plato's Allegory of the Cave and how it connects to cinematic viewership. You'll learn the underlying connections between this theoretical concept and cinema through the screening of material that directly relates to the essay. You will also be completing your first quiz.
