Film Viewership in FIL 3803C

This week, you'll review some terms to know for film viewership in our course and how knowledge of these terms could lead to increased proficiency in writing about and studying films.

Some terms to know for this course are Mise-en-Scene, Diegesis and  Off-Screen Space.

Points will be deducted on quizzes and papers for not using these terms correctly, so it’s important to know them!  We will be using the Yale Film Analysis Guide to accurately define these terms.

The Yale Film Analysis Guide is a catalog, developed by the faculty, staff and students of Yale university's film school, designed to aid in the comprehension of film vocabulary. I have linked this guide into this module so that when you’re preparing for quizzes or in the middle of writing papers, you can always refer to it whenever you need to.There are sections for basic film terms, Mise-en-Scene, Cinematography, editing, sound and analysis.

Let's begin by defining Mise-en-Scene on the next page --->
