Module #5 Introduction

Module Objectives

  • Introduction to what professional cover letters and resumes look like
  • Begin to define the attributes that make you unique and marketable
  • Become proficient in the technical aspects of getting a job

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be able to:

  • List the things that make you who you are... Your "Toolbox": Values, Unique Strengths and Experiences and utilize these things in your resume and cover letter and every time you need to talk about yourself
  • Send a professional cover letter that hooks your audience and makes them want to know more about you
  • Write at least one resume that highlights your career experience and your unique qualities
  • Identify 3 people who are in the field of your desire

In this week's module you will be asked to:

  • Explore Research Jobs and Responsibilities (this is ongoing throughout the semester)
  • Think Write a list of your values, unique abilities and your experience, which will be incorporated into your resume
  • Search Search for the best resume template for your field of interest and download
  • Intro Find three (3) people who are in your field of interest and who may be a potential employer
  • Email Write a cover letter to one of the potential employers
  • Video Watch and learn from a lecture about resume writing
  • Project Write and post your resume for one of the potential employers
  • Reading Read Chapter 6 - GRIT, The Power of Passion and Perseverance

  • Toolbox assignment - Your List
  • 3 people you would like to interview in your field of interest, who could be potential employers
  • 1 Cover letter
  • 1 Resume
