Sometimes it can be difficult to fall asleep if you are experiencing pain.
In this chapter, you are going to be introduced to analgesics for pain relief. Most analgesics will fall within the categories of either opioid (narcotic) or nonopioid (non-narcotic). However, some drugs will be considered adjuvant analgesics because they enhance the effect of opioid and nonopioid drugs. You will also read about sedatives and hypnotics in this chapter. These types of drugs can help with insomnia by imparting a sedating and relaxing effect on the central nervous system.
