- Describe the different types of coronary vasodilators with cautions, side effects, and patient education
- Name the six antilipemic categories and describe their actions, common drugs, and patient education
- Compare and contrast the three categories of anti thrombotic agents in terms of administration, action, typical drugs, and antidotes
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.
According to the CDC, high blood pressure and high cholesterol are key risk factors for heart disease. In this chapter, you will be introduced to various medications families used to treat heart disease and related conditions of the circulatory system. Some of these medications help to lower pressure, while others are used to help lower cholesterol levels. Certain medication are used for their ability to thin out blood, such as anticoagulants, anti platelets, and thrombolytics. You will learn the general differences between all of these medication families and how best to counsel your patients being treated for these conditions.
