- Due Mar 27 by 11:59pm
- Points 25
- Submitting a file upload
Directions:
1. Watch the Demonstration Video.
2. See the rubric at the end of this webpage.
3. Based on the excel dataset, create a pivotable that summarizes hotel data by market. In other words, use the variable Market as the first column, and occupancy rate, average daily rate, revenue per Available room, demand, and revenue as the subsequent columns. Occupancy, average daily rates, and revenue per available room should be displayed as means. Demand and Revenue should be displayed as sums.
4.- Write a data commentary that explains your findings based on your pivot table. About one page summary (double spaced) about your table would be good. You can consider (but are not limited to) the following questions to guide your data commentary. Do not use a Q&A format. It should be a coherent commentary with logical connections among sentences. Additional insight about the findings would be appreciated. Please see a list of resources about writing data commentaries.
-
- What is the market with the smallest/largest occupancy rate during 2019?
- Do you see a potential linear relationship between revenue and average occupancy rate?
- What are the differences in terms of demand between markets?
- What are the differences in terms of revenue between markets?
- Do you see an unusual pattern in the Los Angeles hotel market ?
- What variable might better explain the relatively larger revenue of New York’s hotel Market in 2019? Consider the variation of other variables across different markets to justify your answer.
5.- Submit your excel file with your pivot table and your word document with data commentary on the submission webpage.
