Financial Aid Requirement - All faculty are now required to document students’ academic activity at the beginning of each course. In order to document that you began this course, please complete the PHR & Data Dictionary Quiz no later than this first Friday of classes @ 5 p.m. (or as soon as possible after adding the course). Failure to do so may result in a delay in the disbursement of your financial aid. You can locate the readings for the quiz in the Week #1 Module.

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • This is an online course that includes a virtual tour of eleven hospital departments with associated quizzes and journal entries, a Microsoft Access course through UCF Continuing Education, a site visit (with an alternative option this semester due to the pandemic), an interview with an HIM professional, and other activities.
  • All quizzes are online, will be timed and due at 11:59pm per the syllabus schedule. Quizzes will not be reopened and points will be lost for all missed quizzes. The quiz grades will be released at the end of the quiz period. If you try to click submit after the close date/time you will be given an error message, this means your assignment is late and will not be accepted. Do not wait till the last minute to submit assignments/quizzes, etc.
  • Journal entries are due the same date and time as the associated quiz, and turned in as an attachment. These are to be submitted as a Microsoft Word document and points will be deducted for spelling and grammar errors. As with the quizzes, late journal entries will not be accepted.
  • One HIM professional interview (e.g., possible employment venues outside the hospital HIM department) must be completed and a paper written. You will need to plan for this interview in advance.
  • There will be a comprehensive final examination in the course.

Looking forward to a great semester! Please feel free to reach out with questions anytime.

Ms. Vance
