Module 2: Patient Admissions and Business Office Services

Welcome to Patient Admissions and Business

Patient Admissions (also called Patient Registration) and Business Office Services are essential. Personnel within these departments are responsible for collecting initial patient identification information (e.g.- demographics), as well as the financial data necessary to file a claim for payment for every patient receiving services (inpatient or outpatient) from the healthcare facility.

Also, during this initial registration process, the patient is informed of his or her rights, signs a consent for basic treatment (e.g.- nursing care), and signs an assignment of benefits form authorizing the healthcare facility to release what information is necessary to receive payment for the services rendered from insurance companies or other payers. Registration data is also contained in the patient's medical record and maintained in a computerized patient registration systems called R-ADT systems (i.e.- Admissions, Discharges, Transfers). This system helps collect and analyze important facility utilization statistics such as the occupancy rate, patient census, patient length of stay (LOS) data, bed-turn-over rate, and total service days.
