What's in a place name?

Orlando, Oviedo, Cape Canaveral, Seminole County, Orange County, Florida... All of these names were established in the past and reflect the interests, priorities, even languages of previous groups who lived in the area around UCF. In the same way, place names that reference northern European gods can perhaps provide clues about ritual sites.

Before we get into that, consider: how do place names originate?
