Instructions

Humans are constantly creating archaeological layers, as dirt and dust accumulate in outside and cover objects. More recent archaeological layers are closer to the surface; later archaeological layers are further down. Archaeologists date layers by consider the types of objects they find in those layers. Usually, the latest object in a layer shows the date after which that layer must have been covered. The objects found in archaeological layers can reveal considerable social changes.
