Module 1

The reading associated with this module introduces you to the course, CJL 6568 – Law and Social Control, how to read and critique journal articles, and components of APA style. This module is intended to serve as an introduction or refresher to APA style and the process of academic research.

Objectives: Module 1

Following the completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Identify strategies for avoiding plagiarism using APA style
  • Cite sources using APA style (7th Edition)
  • Identify sources appropriate for academic assignments
  • Understand the basic format for a journal article in the social sciences

  • Harris, S. R. (2014). How to critique journal articles in the social sciences. SAGE.
    • You will need to read all of Harris (2014) to complete the quiz

In-person (Zoom) or telephone meeting (10 extra credit points)

 

Students will be assessed on their completion of the Enrollment Verification Module, Course Orientation Quiz, and Harris (2014) Quiz. You will have one opportunity to take the Course Orientation Quiz, and there is no time limit for this quiz. The quiz is worth 30 points.

You will have two opportunities to take the Harris (2014) Quiz. You must read all of Harris (2014) before attempting the quiz. There is a time limit for this quiz, and you will not have sufficient time to hunt for the answers to all questions without first reading the book. The quiz is worth 40 points.

 

Module 1 is worth a total of 75 points.
