This week's reading will introduce you to the concept of communities of practice, which are "groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly" (Wenger-Trayner).

Some guidance on how to approach this reading:

Pay particular attention to the definitions of domain, community, and practice on page 2, so that you can readily identify communities of practice and convincingly explain to me that they are communities of practice.

Pages 4-5 explain where communities of practice are being formed, and in some cases where the authors feel that they should be formed. This section can give you some ideas of communities of practice that you might want to write about for Major Project 3.

Page 6 has a list of myths about communities of practice. These myths will be useful in helping you to identify appropriate communities of practice and in figuring out what aspects of your community you want to concentrate your writing on later.
