Module 8: Overview

Module Introduction

Module 8 (Week 8) is a face-to-face session. We will meet for two class periods (110 minutes).

Serving as a UTA can be a very rewarding experience, but there's also the possibility that you may experience situations that you do not feel prepared to handle and/or situations that make you feel uncomfortable. These situations may arise as a result of the unique challenges and pressures of being a UTA, while other situations may be related to requests for special accommodations, grading disputes, academic dishonesty, or behavioral issues. While your faculty supervisor is ultimately responsible for managing difficult situations, there may be times when you are the "source" of the situation because of the challenges of being a UTA, or you are the first to be confronted by the situation. The purpose of this session is to explore some of the unique challenges and pressures of serving as a UTA; provide opportunities to problem solve ways to handle difficult situations; and increase your confidence with handling difficult or uncomfortable situations related to your role as a UTA.
