Meet Your UTA Assignment
Objective: Create an informational piece about you to be used to introduce yourself to the students enrolled in the course for which you are serving as an undergraduate teaching assistant (UTA), as well as your HSC4813 classmates and instructor.
Directions
- Create a student information piece in a printable format (i.e., as opposed to video, audio, etc.) that includes the information outlined under "Requirements" (see below). Unless you choose a brochure format, the piece should not exceed one page. A brochure format is two pages (front and back).
- Use subtitles or phrases to make it easy to identify your responses to the required information. Here are two examples using "place of birth and places lived". These are just two examples. The idea is to make sure the reader understands how the information is related.
- Place of Birth: XXXX, but I have lived in XXX, XXX, and XXX
- OR
- Born in: XXX Places I have lived: XXX, XXX, and XXX
- While creative design is not a requirement, please feel free to show your creativity and personality. You are free to use images/icons to represent your responses as long as their meaning is clear to others. For example, for states where you have lived, you could use copyright-free images of each state. (When using images, please refer to the Directions for Inserting Alt Text.)
- Even though this type of introduction is meant to be friendly and serve as an "ice breaker", remember to keep it professional. Avoid sharing information or using language or images that would be inappropriate in a professional setting.
- Save the document as a PDF and upload it in Webcourses under this assignment.
- Each of you will conduct a peer review of one student information piece created by one of your classmates. Details for the peer review assignment are outlined under the assignment labeled "Peer Review of Meet Your UTA". The peer review will be assigned as part of Module 3 (Week 3).
- Items marked with an asterisk (*) must be included as part of the oral introduction you will give to your HSC4813 classmates and instructor scheduled for the Module 2 (Week 2) face-to-face session.
Requirements
- Use a printable format. The format might be a 1-page Word document, 1 PowerPoint slide, or a template design (i.e., infographic, brochure) from a program such as Canva Links to an external site. or others. (Note: For images, be sure to insert "alt text" to describe the image. This is an important principle of web accessibility. Here are Directions for Inserting Alt Text. This information is also available in the "Help" tab in Word and PowerPoint.)
- Include a recent photo of yourself. The photo should be close enough to see your face well. You are free to include other photos, but be sure to include at least one recent close-up photo.
- Include the following information:
- *Name (full name and name that you like to go by; if your name is commonly mispronounced, please provide a pronunciation guide in parentheses). Your name should be at the beginning of the piece.
- *Course for which you are serving as a UTA
- Office hours
- Contact information (Knights email address)
- *Place of birth and places lived (for places lived, it is sufficient to give the state, or if it is outside of the US, you can list the country)
- *Career goal(s)/aspiration(s)
- *Something interesting/unique about you
- Your best tip for success in the course for which you are serving as a UTA
