Module 1 (Week 1): Summary
Summary
Upon completion of Module 1 (Week 1), you should have:
- Attended our first face-to-face class meeting, been introduced to the concept of immediacy in the classroom/teacher immediacy, and experienced an example of a behavior that can help to foster immediacy.
- Completed the Syllabus & Course Expectation Quiz on or before August 27, 2021, with a score of 100%.
- Completed the UTA Quiz.
- Submitted Part 1 of the Faculty Expectations of Undergraduate Teaching Assistant assignment and emailed a copy of it to your faculty supervisor.
- Participated in the Course Attitude Poll.
- Started working on your Meet Your UTA introduction.
Takeaways
- Immediacy in the classroom/teacher immediacy is the use of verbal and nonverbal cues associated with increased student motivation. Giving your students the chance to learn about you, and for you to learn about them, can help establish rapport and increase student motivation for learning.
Next Week
Next week marks our second face-to-face meeting. It will last 110 minutes (two class periods instead of one).
During this session, you will introduce yourself to your instructor and classmates. Your introduction should include, at a minimum, the information marked with an asterisk on the Meet Your UTA assignment. This will give you a chance to practice sharing information about yourself to small groups of people whom you may not know. Articulating your thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively is a skill that will become increasingly important as you enter into the professional work force or graduate or professional school programs.
Remember that attendance is required for all face-to-face and synchronous Zoom sessions.
