So many germs in the world! Thankfully, we have arrived at the Anti infective chapter.

It might surprise you to learn that  antibiotics have only been around for about the last 90 years. So, if you got sick prior to the 1930's, there was nothing available to treat your illness with. It was left entirely up to your own immune system to fight off the infection. Needless to say, mortality rates were much higher back then.

Although we still can't cure every infection (looking at you Coronavirus), today we have a much better arsenal of drugs to help defeat many of the microbes that cause infection. In fact, we have developed families of antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals to effectively treat the different types of infection, as well as developed vaccines, in order to prevent illnesses in the first place. This chapter will give you a tour of the different anti infective families, how to properly use them, and what side effects to watch out for.
