  • Identify the commonly used skeletal muscle relaxants
  • Describe the side effects to be expected with muscle relaxants
  • Differentiate between the anti inflammatory drugs and anti rheumatic drugs
  • Explain the serious side effects of nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)
  • List the drug interactions with NSAIDS 
  • Describe medications for osteoporosis prevention and treatment
  • Compare and contrast a cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor and other NSAIDS
  • Explain appropriate patient education for those taking skeletal muscle relaxants and NSAIDS 

Healthy muscles, joints, and bones are necessary to be able to move.
But what happens when a condition affecting the health of your bones, joints, or muscles prevents you from being able to move freely without experiencing pain? In this chapter, you will learn about some of these musculoskeletal conditions that can cause pain or impede movement such as arthritis and muscle spasticity. Elderly patient can also be prone to developing osteoporosis which can make their bones fragile and susceptible the breakage. You will also learn about the medications used to prevent or treat osteoporosis in order to avoid a future fracture.
