Performance Appraisal
Once a job analysis is complete, what do we do with it? Now what? Out of many things, the data from a job analysis may be used to conduct a performance appraisal. A performance appraisal takes the factors and criterion that a job analysis deems necessary for a job, and assesses employees' performance based on them. Performance appraisal is an essential part of performance management, which also involves setting goals, receiving feedback, and development planning. By understanding and acknowledging where one's performance explicitly stands, then he or she is able to set objectives and plan ways to develop further.
What is a performance appraisal?
Performance appraisal is the systematic review and evaluation of job performance, as well as the provision of performance feedback. Almost everyone has gone through a some form of a performance appraisal, whether in a job, school, or sports team. It could have been conducted by a teacher, parent, boss, mentor, coach, or even a friend. In the simplest form, a performance appraisal simply assesses one's performance in a job, whether a professional job or mowing a lawn. You will further learn about performance appraisals in greater depth and breadth as you study the chapter.
