Design Your Course:

In the design phase, the focus is on learning objectives, lesson content, subject matter analysis, exercise, assessment instruments used, and media selection.

The Following Elements are Included in the Design phase:

Topics:	Overview: Course Design Essential and Suggested Elements
Customize Your Course Home Page	Course Home Page (Required) A banner is highly recommended to brand your course. Consider how you will welcome learners into your course and draft a greeting on your home page. You may also consider making a course intro video.
Organize Content into Modules & Lessons	Modules and Pages, (Required) In your course, the Modules will contain the rest of your content (lessons, assignments, etc.). They help break up your content into more manageable, clearly defined sections. Please note: You will need to create a module before you can add any other content, such as lessons, or assignments. Module Overviews and Lessons (Required) At the beginning of each module, there will need to be a module overview. This overview will give learners a quick glance at the overall purpose of the module. Lessons will follow your module overview. While the module overview prepares the learner for what is coming, your lessons will contain the actual content for learning. There is not a specific number of lessons you need to have; however, after reviewing your content, we may recommend either combining modules together or splitting them up as needed. Please note: While we refer to them as “module overviews” and “lessons” in this document, know that these both exist as *Pages* within your course. Pages are not limited to module overviews and lessons and can act as whatever you need for your course. Lesson Type - Media (Required) Think about what media types you would like in your course – for each lesson, you will need to determine what format the lesson will be in. Will it just be text on the page, maybe some images, or a video either embedded in the course or one you create? an mp3? an infographic? knowing this will help you plan out the look/content of your course AND how you deliver it Module Summary (Recommended) We highly recommend having a module summary at the end of each module. Having a summary can provide learners the opportunity to review what they should have learned. If there is something they missed, they can go back and review the content/lessons before moving onto any potential practice activities and assessments. Please note: Module summaries would also exist as *Pages* in your course. In Module 3: Development phase you will learn how to use Webcourses@UCF tools such as Rich Content Editor, Commons, Import Content, Upload Files, etc. to help you develop the Modules and Lessons.)
Decide on Activities and Assignments	Practice Activities (Recommended) If applicable to your course, practice activities are a great way for learners to begin testing themselves and reviewing what they do and do not know before any further potentially more official assessments. Some practice activity ideas include Materia widgets, Quizzes (within your course) that are not worth any points, and Realizeit. Assessments: Quizzes & Assignments (Recommended) Assessments are recommended because they can both help you see a learner’s progress as well as give the learner another opportunity to strengthen their knowledge, see what they know and what else they need to review. These are recommended to both help you see student progress and help the learner review and strengthen their knowledge of the content/know where they currently stand if the purpose of the course is to learn information and is not only just a resource hub. Text box submission assignments and quizzes are common. Please note Assignments and Quizzes are differentiated as they each have their own place inside canvas. In Module:3 the Development Phase, you will learn how to develop Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, and Surveys using Webcourses@UCF tools and External Apps/LTIs

If you don't have an existing special programs course then request one via ServiceNow ticketing service. For more information about the Special Programs Support tool click Next to go to lesson 4. Otherwise, go to the activity and start designing your masterpiece.
